Whatever it takes

Jim Giordano will do whatever it takes
to grow CareTech Solutions Inc. and
keep his employees happy.

For CareTech’s president and CEO, this
has proved to be a winning philosophy
both for the company and for the organizations it serves.

CareTech Solutions,
an information technology company specializing in technology solutions for the
health care industry,
was started through
collaboration among
Oakwood Health
System, Compuware Corp. and the Detroit
Medical Center. And just six months after it
signed its first contract, it approached
Giordano to lead the emerging organization.

To help him get it right, he questioned
friends and colleagues about what they
liked about their companies, and a common theme emerged for what he wanted
CareTech to be: a company that focuses on
its customers, demonstrates quality of
business and takes care of its people.

The greatest challenge Giordano faced
was the health care industry itself, which
has lagged behind other industries in introducing technology into its daily operations.
However, once physicians realized that
technology could help make their organizations more competitive and eliminate
some human error, they became allies in
approaching hospitals and convincing
administrations that technology is not a
cost but an investment.

Also contributing to the company’s growth
is Giordano’s commitment to “Let’s not let
that happen here,” referring to downsizing
and rightsizing. And in an era marked by cuts,
CareTech has experienced a growth rate of 8
percent, compounded annually.

Today, Giordano has transformed
CareTech into the kind of company he’s
always wanted to work for — one where
he makes a difference.
