Kent Clapp CEO Leadership Award Winner

When most people think of marketing agencies, they tend to think of new media technologies and flashy campaigns, but the employees at GREENCREST, under the leadership of President Kelly Borth, are defying that stereotype by also focusing on bettering the community.

GREENCREST team members participate in a variety of local organizations, including the Central Ohio chapter of the Young Survival Coalition, a nonprofit network of breast cancer survivors and supporters. The company’s pro bono work for the group included managing the organization’s ad campaigns, public relations needs and artistic direction for the “In Living Pink” fundraiser. That included creating logos, invitations, letterhead template, programs, silent auction materials and table tents for the event. In addition to donating their professional talents for the event, GREENCREST team members also donated their time to the In Living Pink planning committee and volunteered to help YSC members assemble and mail the invitations for the event.

In addition to helping the YSC, GREENCREST employees also worked for several months on the American Heart Association’s annual “Go Red for Women” Columbus luncheon campaign. Again, the company’s creative team created all of the promotional and design materials for the annual event, which is the primary fundraising event for the association. The firm’s team members chose this organization for a pro bono project because they felt there was a great need to get the word out that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, and the firm will volunteer its services again this year.

While it takes an entire organization to make large programs like this happen, it wouldn’t be possible without the leadership of Borth. She has a firm belief in the value of helping others, both personally and professionally, and she instills that same belief in her entire team.

Tricia Wheeler, publisher of “Edible Columbus,” has known Borth since 1997 when Borth mentored her through the WNET program at the chamber of commerce.

“She not only mentored me but several other young women business owners over the years,” Wheeler wrote. “She has been a wonderful mentor, role model and friend. She has helped all of us grow our businesses, find balance in our lives and has inspired us to be involved in the community. Her strength and wise advice have influenced several of her protégés to keep moving ahead when times were tough.”
