Sims Business Products has merged with Modern Copy Inc. The partnership will enable both companies to deliver new and expanded products and services to customers.

Franklin University and Hondros College have joined forces to offer customized education and training to Central Ohio businesses. The two have combined strengths to offer innovative programs in a number of areas, including sales, customer service, leadership, negotiations and accounting for nonaccountants. A wide range of options also is available for organizations wishing to customize a program to fit their individual needs.

Urban Environments Inc. has expanded to a second location at 3001 Innis Road to better serve clients in Easton, New Albany, Bexley, Polaris, Westerville, Gahanna and Columbus. The new facility is the operational base for commercial and residential landscape installation crews, site management crews and the irrigation division. Urban Environments’ plant nursery and administrative staff have also relocated to this facility.

The Ohio Tax Credit Authority has approved tax credits for two local companies. Shaklee Corp. has received a 55 percent tax credit for a seven-year term to consolidate operations. The company plans to lease a building in the Gateway Business Park in Groveport to establish a regional distribution center. The project involves the merger of Midwestern and Eastern warehouse and distribution operations currently located in New Jersey and Illinois. The project, estimated at $3.7 million, is expected to create 57 jobs within the first three years of operation.

In addition, ABX Air Inc., located in Obetz, will receive a 65 percent tax credit for a seven-year term to lease a 152,000-square-foot facility, purchase state-of-the-art warehouse and distribution systems and expand services at its existing plant in Columbus. The project, estimated at $7.3 million, is expected to create 335 jobs and retain eight within the first three years of operations.

Union Savings Bank has broken ground on a $1.4 million branch office and regional corporate headquarters at State Route 161 and Sawmill Place. The branch is expected to open in January.

Fueled by the rapid growth in e-business, Ultryx Corp. has moved into larger offices at 8760 Orion Place in the Polaris Centers of Commerce complex. This move will provide the company with the space needed for its current boost in employees.

Frontstep Inc., an e-business subsidiary of Symix Systems Inc., has formed a strategic alliance with Momentix, a provider of end-to-end Internet technology solutions for trade shows. As part of this relationship, Momentix will integrate Frontstep’s eCRM technology into its suite of Web-based trade show management solutions, leveraging Frontstep’s online customer relationship management capabilities to propel buyers and sellers of traditional trade media venues to the Internet.

The Clarklift forklift business of Brambles Equipment Services Inc. in Columbus has been acquired by Hyster MidEast of Cincinnati. This acquisition consolidates Hyster’s position in the Columbus market and is aimed at reinforcing the company’s commitment to lift truck customers in this region.

Corna/Kokosing Construction Co. is constructing 416,700 square feet of the 750,000-square-foot Fashion District – Phase II of Easton Town Center. The project, located directly north of Phase I, is scheduled for completion in fall 2001.

CIO magazine has named Columbus-based Antique Networking Inc. as a recipient of the 2000 CIO-100 award. The award program recognizes organizations around the world that exemplify the highest level of operations and strategic excellence. This year’s program focused on excellence, innovation and improved business performance through the use of customer-oriented practices.

The Public Relations Society of America has presented a Bronze Anvil Award to Mills/James Productions. Mills/James won the Advertorial Anvil for “The Art & Science of Modern Storytelling – 15th Anniversary Edition of ‘Stage & Screen.'” The Bronze Anvil Awards are presented for the best tactical solutions to public relations challenges in the nation. Awards are based on planning, content, creativity, quality, technical excellence and results.

Dayton Area Health Plan, including its affiliate, Columbus Health Plan, has changed its name to CareSource.
