Mike Silver created an accounting consulting practice that focused on developing small business technology while he was at a small accounting firm in Skokie in 1989.
Silver believed in the consulting business and thought it would continue to grow and develop independent of the accounting firm, so in 1999, he and a co-partner bought the consulting practice and named it Omnios.
They generated sufficient capital to start the limited liability corporation by utilizing a small amount of personal loans and retainers due from the accounting firm in Skokie.
Silver has two key components to the success of Omnios.
* Stay focused on the core business. Omnios provides project accounting system implementation to approximately 250 customers. It is the company’s strategy to maintain the focus of only providing system implementation over accounting systems while serving the small business sector.
The company takes a conservative approach in reaching into new markets outside of this core scope.
* Build a world-class internal training program. Silver’s vision is that well-trained and satisfied people provide the best possible service and support to customers. Omnios provides unlimited training hours to each of its staff members.
Silver empowers each of his employees through an unlimited amount of training and flexibility. As software consultants, Silver places the ownership on each employee to appropriately serve clients. Accordingly, each employee has the ability and freedom over his or her schedule in completing assignments, training and vacation.
