There’s no question that hiring employees has become much more difficult. You never know if a new hire is going to endanger a customer or another employee, putting your company into legal jeopardy.
But that can be avoided, says Jason Morris, president of Background Information Services Inc., a Beachwood-based consulting firm. Here are five steps Morris suggests you take to avoid negligent hiring:
1. Include a pre-employment screening in your corporate policy and procedures.
2. Make sure the screening services are related to the position to be filled.
3. The employer must have a signed application and release for all searches.
4. Ask appropriate questions during the interview process.
5. Verify information on applications through independent sources.
