Linda Orlans financed eTitle Inc. by mortgaging her home and forgoing her own salary for two years while her company found its footing.

Orlans started her career as a trial lawyer specializing in real estate law. There, she saw the need for attorneys with the skill and the speed to handle foreclosures. So in 1996, she formed Orlans Associates to handle those, along with evictions and bankruptcies.

By 2000, the increasing volume of business encouraged her to expand and create eTitle Inc. to focus on title examinations while providing superior service.

Orlans’ personal sacrifices funded the company, but it was her vision that propelled it. And she says that the key to her success is her company’s customer service. Orlans knows that respect and sensitivity are crucial during the difficult situations she helps with. Her business model is based on cutting-edge technology and high-efficiency techniques, resulting in a high-quality, low-cost closing process.

In fact, eTitle is the first title company in Michigan to offer streamlined-paperless closing. Orlans furthered that green initiative two years ago by purchasing a building based on LEED standards, creating a sustainable work environment. In the future, she plans to use adjacent city land as an outdoor common area, both for employee use and for client meetings.

Already, eTitle has expanded into four states, and Orlans plans to expand her reach into another five this year. But she pays just as much attention to her local community. Her personal motto, “You get what you give,” fuels her philanthropic involvement. She serves on numerous boards and committees around her three interests: children, education and self-improvement.
