Ganesh Iyer recognizes that business can be a jungle, but he
says that his main objective is to steer through that jungle of
opportunities and remain profitable with limited cash and
resources.
He took over as CEO of Vertex Computer Systems in 2002
after the company nearly faced extinction in 2001, and since
doing so, he has led the company through some major
accomplishments. To start, the company has continued to
grow at a 30 percent pace under his leadership, and he was
also able to earn the business of significant clients, including National City Bank.
As the company has grown, it has made sure to do so the
right way. Despite rapid growth, it has maintained the highest
levels of customer service, which has resulted in a nearly 100
percent customer retention rate. On the internal side, Iyer
makes sure to take care of employees, as well, with an environment conducive to personal growth and creativity, which
has yielded the company a low turnover rate. In addition to
not losing employees, company growth has created an additional 20 to 25 jobs in Ohio this year alone, bringing the company to a total of nearly 90 employees in the United States
with an additional 160 in India.
Because of the company’s success in recent years, Iyer is
now leading it through an expansion of its products and
services. For example, Vertex now offers software testing
services, and the company is developing software for sale
with or without services included.
Iyer is a strong leader who recognizes that due to the company’s
growth and success his priorities now need to shift; his primary
role has moved from heavy involvement in sales to being focused
on strategic planning. He expects the company’s sales to double
within the next two to three years. As competition intensifies, he
will continue to think creatively and evolve the company to meet
the demands and needs of his clients in order to meet his growth
goals.
