New thinking

In 1997, Christopher Durham had a vision for building a physician company that was based off of a platform of efficiency and sound business practices.

He worked hard for years and bet every penny he had on this quest to build a successful business partnership. His office was the dining room at his father-in-law’s house, and his friends and family served as his support team.

Most thought he was a dreamer because his fee-for-service model actually compensated doctors for real productivity and performance quality rather than seniority or other variables. It was considered impossible to implement given the culture of medicine.

In 2003, Dr. Christopher Krubert met up with Durham and the core partnership for ApolloMD was established. Krubert went on the road to learn the business hands-on for years and established new contracts in towns across the country. He brought a formal business perspective to the team and helped streamline the original vision to what it is today — a scalable, high-quality, cost-effective option for a hospital’s clinical outsourcing needs. In 2006, he took over as CEO of the organization, and since then, ApolloMD has quadrupled in size.

ApolloMD’s mission is to give each patient its best and gives away millions of dollars each year to care for the underserved. Durham and Krubert are adamant that their physicians are paid the same for an uninsured patient as they are for an insured one, which ensures that 500,000 of the company’s 2.5 million patients are given the care they need, despite not having the money to pay for it.
