The Timken Co. board of directors named Ward J. “Tim” Timken Jr. chairman. The appointment follows the U.S. Senate confirmation of W.R. Timken Jr. as U.S. ambassador to Germany and his subsequent resignation as chairman of the Timken board.
The new chairman joined The Timken Co. in 1992 and was elected to the board in 2002. In April, he was named vice chairman while continuing to serve as president of the company’s Steel Group, guiding that business to record levels of profitability.
Timken played a key role in the 2003 acquisition of The Torrington Co., which increased the size of the company by 50 percent. He also has extensive experience in international business, including key positions with the company’s operations in Europe and Latin America in the 1990s.
Timken holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Georgetown University and an MBA from the Darden School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia. He serves on boards including the American Iron and Steel Institute, the Ohio Steel Council, the Ohio Business Development Council, the Stark Development Board, the Henry & Louise Timken Foundation, the Timken Foundation and the Timken Charitable Trust.
UNITED WAY OF SUMMIT COUNTY
United Way of Summit County named Timothy R. Fitzwater, National City Bank president and CEO of the Northeast Region, as its 2005 volunteer campaign chairman.
As campaign chairman, Fitzwater is involved in planning and implementing the campaign, recruiting members for the campaign cabinet and attending campaign special events in an effort to successfully partner with other volunteers and organizations to manage the campaign and achieve the overall fund-raising goal.
Fitzwater has contributed to United Way financially and through his involvement with volunteer fund-raising events and assisting with the United Way/Red Cross campaign.
Fitzwater also serves on the boards of Leadership Akron, Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens, Akron Community Foundation, Akron General Health System, Akron Tomorrow, The Greater Akron Chamber of Commerce, Cascade Capital Corp., The Community Improvement Corp. and the Summit County Port Authority.
He serves on the advisory council for the Center of Economic Education and the advancement council of the College of Business Administration at the University of Akron. He is past regional chairman of the Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges and the Law Enforcement Foundation campaigns.

Diebold Inc. named Kevin J. Krakora interim CFO.
Gregory T. Geswein, senior vice president and CFO, is leaving the company to become CFO of The Reynolds and Reynolds Co.
Krakora is vice president and corporate controller. He will act as CFO until a successor is identified.
Krakora was senior vice president and CFO at TelTek Inc. in Atlanta prior to joining Diebold in 2001. His previous experience includes vice president and controller with Alumax Inc.; vice president and controller of the customer service and support division at Emerson Electric Co. in Columbus; and various positions at Price Waterhouse in Cleveland.
He received an MBA from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, and a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University in New York City.
LAUREN MANUFACTURING
Lauren Manufacturing appointed Lisa Huntsman, vice president of operations, and Scott Peters, vice president of sales and marketing, co-leaders of the company. They will share responsibility for the direction and growth of Lauren Manufacturing. In addition to their new responsibilities, the pair will continue to serve in their operational and sales/marketing roles.
Huntsman is a 14-year veteran with the company. A graduate of Eastern Michigan University, she received a bachelor of science degree and is finishing her MBA at Ashland University.
Huntsman began her career at Lauren Manufacturing as a chemist, working her way up to technical director, cut cell leader and to her current role as vice president of operations. Before joining Lauren, Huntsman was chief chemist for four years at Ohio Brass, a division of Hubbell. Peters joined Lauren Manufacturing in January as vice president of sales and marketing. A graduate of West Point, he served in the United States Army from 1987 to 1990 as an aviation officer. He received an MBA from Oakland University.
Peters worked in research and development and sales positions with the Michelin Tire Co. and Dayton Walther Corp. In 1995, he joined the MacLean-Fogg Co. and held the positions of division sales manager, vice president of marketing and sales, and vice president and general manager for several divisions.
AKRON CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL
Michael D. Rubin was appointed chairman of the radiology department at Akron Children’s Hospital.
After earning his medical degree from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine, Rubin completed a diagnostic radiology residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He completed a pediatric radiology fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. He holds board certification from the American Board of Radiology, as well as a certificate of added qualification in pediatric radiology.
