Movers & Shakers

The Ohio State University Health System named Peter Geier permanent vice president for health services and Health System CEO. He previously held these positions on an interim basis.

Geier joined OSU Medical Center’s leadership team in 2001 as chief operating officer of The Ohio State University Medical Center. He previously had a 17-year career with Huntington Bancshares Inc., which positions as vice chairman, president and chief operating officer.

“Pete’s keen understanding of business and health care and his ability to work through the myriad challenges facing an academic medical center — at the same time meeting or surpassing some of the Health System’s strategic goals — certainly made people take notice,” says Dr. Fred Sanfilippo, senior vice president and executive dean for health services.

Geier continues in the role of COO of OSU Medical Center to help maintain clinical, research, education and administrative collaboration on the organization’s goals. “Consolidation of the responsibilities will allow us to integrate all of the activities of the medical center in a more seamless and strategic manner,” says Sanfilippo.

Geier holds an MBA from Butler University and a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University. In addition, he is a graduate of the Kellogg Graduate School of Management Advanced Executive Program at Northwestern University and the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University.
