H.J. Heinz Co. named Idamarie Laquatra, Ph.D., R.D., L.D.N., director of global nutrition. Laquatra is a long-time Heinz consultant in the area of nutrition. She replaces David Yeung, Ph.D., who retired April 30.
She has experience in the clinical, academic and business fields and has extensive training in nutrition counseling.
Laquatra has authored and co-authored articles in peer-reviewed journals and chapters in texts. Prior to earning her advanced degrees, she worked as a clinical dietitian in hospitals and nursing homes. Her food industry experience includes eight years at H.J. Heinz Co., first as a nutritionist for Heinz USA and then as manager of nutrition for Weight Watchers Food Co.. She joined Diet Center Inc. in 1992 as vice president of scientific affairs and training and in 1995, began her own nutrition consulting business, contracting with clients in both the nonprofit and for-profit sectors.
An active member of the American Dietetic Association (ADA), Laquatra was president of the Pittsburgh Dietetic Association, was elected Pennsylvania Delegate and was appointed chair of the advisory committee of ADA’s Food and Nutrition Conference and Exhibition in 2002. The Pennsylvania Dietetic Association presented her the Keystone Award in 1998 and the Outstanding Dietitian of Pennsylvania award in 2002.

World Health Alternatives Inc. named Bruce C. Hayden chief financial officer.
Hayden has more than 20 years of management experience with both publicly traded and privately held companies. Beginning in 1983, he spent nine years in public accounting with BDO Seidman LLP and other public accounting firms in Richmond, Va.
In 1992, Hayden entered the home health care industry as chief internal auditor of First American Homecare, the largest privately held company in the homecare industry at the time. He then joined MedShares Inc. in 1994 as CFO and EVP of financial operations. Hayden also was CFO of Columbia Homecare Group. In 1999, Hayden became CFO of UroCor Inc., which was a NASDAQ-listed company at the time and a leading diagnostic laboratory and disease management company in the field of urology.
Most recently, Hayden was CFO of Xybernaut Corp. Prior to that role, he was the CFO of Galt Associates Inc.
Hayden earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration from East Carolina University and is a CPA and Certified Internal Auditor.
ALCOA
James W. Owens, chairman and CEO of Caterpillar Inc., was appointed to Alcoa’s board of directors.
Owens was named vice chairman of Caterpillar in 2003 and elected chairman and CEO last year. He is a director of the Institute for International Economics, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and a director of FM Global Insurance Co. Owens is also a member of The Business Council, Business Roundtable and the Manufacturing Council; the Community Advisory Board of Saint Francis Medical Center; the Civic Federation Board; and the Global Advisory Council to The Conference Board.
Owens obtained his Ph.D. in economics from North Carolina State University.

Falco A. Muscante joined the law firm of Maiello Brungo & Maiello LLP. Muscante has almost 20 years of experience practicing law.
Previously, he was a partner at Petraglia & Muscante. He will continue to provide counsel in the area of public sector law.
Muscante has served as a member of the council, the planning commission and the zoning hearing board for the Borough of Lincoln. He was elected director of the South Allegheny School Board and will remain director until 2007.
Muscante is licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania and is a member of the Allegheny County Bar Association.
PPG INDUSTRIES
Joseph Stas was named vice president, automotive original-equipment-manufacturer glass by PPG Industries.
Stas started with PPG in 1978 as a project engineer at the former Greensburg glass fabrication facility. He worked in glass manufacturing roles at Evansville, Ind., and Creighton before moving to Europe as manager of European automotive glass operations. He also served as director, market development, in Europe before returning in 1994 as plant manager for the Meadville float glass plant.
In 1997, Stas became director, production, for automotive OEM glass, moving in 1999 to coatings. He was appointed director, global operations, for automotive coatings in 2000, and has served as director, strategic operations, for fiberglass since 2003.
Stas earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and business administration from Carnegie Mellon University and a master’s of business administration from the Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh.
