Standard Management Corp. appointed Dr. Martial Knieser president of U.S. Health Services, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Standard Management Corp.
As both a businessman and physician, Knieser is accustomed to directing and marketing a large medical laboratory. He is a partner in AmeriPath Inc. and formerly a director of laboratories at Community Hospitals in Indianapolis.
“Dr. Knieser brings a wealth of medical expertise and numerous strategic relationships to the company,” says Ronald Hunter, chairman of Standard Management Corp. “We are fortunate to be in a position to attract a person of his caliber and commitment to patient care.”
“Linking people with strategy and operations will be my first priority,” says Knieser.
Knieser is a graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo Medical School and St. Bonaventure University.

HILLENBRAND INDUSTRIES INC.
Bruce Bonnevier joined Hillenbrand Industries Inc. as vice president, human resources. Bonnevier had previously been vice president, human resources at Rohm and Haas’ electronic materials division.

MODULAR BUILDING INSTITUTE
Rick Bedell, president of Miller Building Systems Inc. in Elkhart, is the new president of the Modular Building Institute. The Virginia-based nonprofit trade association serves the multibillion-dollar factory-built structures industry on an international scale, and represents dealers, suppliers and manufacturers.
Bedell served three terms on the Modular Building Institute Board and was its vice president last year. As president, he plans to increase the trade organization’s leadership role and promote the modular industry.
“Our goal is to continue building the marketing and education program,” Bedell says. “Another is to take a proactive role in regulatory and legislative issues as they affect our industry.”
One MBI strategy is the formation of Regional Regulatory Councils composed of volunteer member companies to address concerns and issues that vary from region to region.
Miller Building Systems is a subsidiary of Coachmen Industries Inc. and is a major manufacturer of a wide variety of commercial modular buildings, with plants in Indiana, Pennsylvania and Vermont.
WILD BIRDS UNLIMITED
John Schaust joined Wild Birds Unlimited as chief naturalist, a new position based at the franchise support center.
“Wild Birds Unlimited and its storeowners have always been enthusiastic nature educators who are committed to the preservation of natural habitat,” says Carpenter, president and CEO. “In his new role, John will help our storeowners deepen their knowledge of birds and nature so that they can do an even better job of encouraging customers to be active backyard bird feeders, know more about birding behavior and activities and be knowledgeable stewards of our environment. The creation of a chief naturalist position reinforces the importance of nature education throughout the WBU organization. We are fortunate to have a seasoned veteran in John to fulfill this role.”
Schaust has more than two decades of interpretative programming, media contact, exhibit production and program management experience. Most recently, he was park manager and naturalist for Holliday Park and Nature Center in Indianapolis.

BORSHOFF JOHNSON MATTHEWS
Danielle Falconer was promoted to account director at Borshoff Johnson Matthews. In this new position, Falconer is responsible for public relations, creative initiatives and client communication.
Falconer graduated from Kent State University with a bachelor’s degree in public relations and was previously an account manager at Borshoff Johnson Matthews. She is an active board member for Dance Kaleidoscope and a member of the Hoosier Chapter of Public Relations Society of America.
