Michael P. O’Boyle, CPA, was named chief operating officer of The Cleveland Clinic Foundation and Health System. O’Boyle joined The Cleveland Clinic in 2001 as chief financial officer.
In his new role, O’Boyle has overall responsibility for operations at The Cleveland Clinic’s main campus, along with responsibility for all hospitals and strategic business units within the Cleveland Clinic Health System and Cleveland Clinic Florida. Additionally, O’Boyle oversees multiple strategic initiatives, including construction of The Cleveland Clinic’s new $400 million Heart Center and long-term strategies related to improving the organization’s competitive position and financial well-being.
O’Boyle replaces Frank Lordeman, who retired after 13 years with the Clinic. Prior to joining The Cleveland Clinic, O’Boyle was executive vice president and chief financial officer of Medstar Health Inc. of Columbia, Md., the largest health care network in the Washington-Baltimore metropolitan area.
O’Boyle is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Financial Executives Institute. He is an advanced member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and serves on the board of directors of the GreenSpring Fund and United Way of Greater Cleveland.
UNITEDHEALTHCARE OF CLEVELAND
UnitedHealthcare of Cleveland named David C. Epstein, M.D. medical director. Epstein oversees local market clinical operation throughout Northern Ohio. He focuses on driving measurable and meaningful improvement in the use of evidence-based medicine, patient safety, clinical quality and affordability. He is the key liaison between UnitedHealthcare and the Northern Ohio medical community.
Epstein has held medical-director roles for managed care organizations, a national disease management company and a financial risk-bearing independent practice association/physical hospital association. Most recently, Epstein was senior medical director of the Great Rochester Independent Practice Association, where he was responsible for a team of 25 professionals comprising utilization, case and disease management activities; clinical pharmacy consulting; and quality improvement.
He holds board certification from the American Board of Emergency Medicine and the American Board of Medical Management.
Epstein earned a bachelor of science degree from Tulane University, an MBA from Emory University School of Business and a medical degree from Chicago Medical School.
THE SHAMROCK COS.
The Shamrock Cos. appointed Jim Martin executive vice president of Shamrock Medical Solutions Group, a new division.
The new division offers patient identification, drug verification, drug labeling and packaging, and financial and administrative services to medical providers.
Previously, Martin was at Cardinal Health.
Martin has a bachelor of science degree in pharmacy from Ferris State University and 10 years of marketing and business development experience with Cardinal Health.
SKY BANK
Samuel Rashada joined Sky Bank as vice president and area manager of Sky’s Small Business Banking department. Rashada supports the Greater Cleveland Region of Sky Bank, serving Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, northern Summit and northern Portage counties. His primary responsibilities include the management and coordination of all small-business initiatives for his team and Sky’s 30 financial centers throughout Greater Cleveland.
Rashada has 32 years of experience in financial services. He received a bachelor of science degree in economics and graduated magna cum laude from Florida A&M University. He is a member of the Big Brother Big Sister Board, the Bean International Foundation and Florida A&M’s University Alumni Association.
Also, Robert Dracon Jr. joined Sky Bank as vice president of commercial lending and regional relationship manager. Dracon supports the Greater Cleveland Region of Sky Bank, serving western Cuyahoga County. His takes primary responsibility for developing and maintaining commercial banking relationships, including the continuous identification of the financial needs of clients and providing innovative solutions.
Dracon has 18 years of experience in financial services. He attended Cleveland State University, where he received both his bachelor’s and his master’s degrees in business administration. He is a board member, and was recently named president-elect of Sales & Marketing Executives of Cleveland. He is also past secretary/treasurer for the Independence Chapter of Business Network International.
CLEVELAND STATE UNIVERSITY
Cleveland State University appointed Joseph W. Jasper Jr. technology transfer officer, the first position of its kind at the university.
Jasper acts as the liaison between Cleveland State and all outside groups to encourage joint partnerships in research and development. In addition to crafting procedures regarding the commercialization of intellectual property and the disclosure of inventions, he assists with securing early-stage funding for technology development; negotiating licensing agreements; evaluating and helping establish spinoff companies; and working with legal counsel to monitor and assure compliance between collaborators and licensees.
