FirstEnergy
Fred D. Hafer will not seek re-election as chairman of the board of FirstEnergy and will retire from the company May 31. Hafer was named chairman of FirstEnergy following its November 2001 merger with the former GPU Inc. Prior to that, he was chairman, president and CEO of GPU.
BCG Systems Inc.
The computer services affiliate of Brockman, Coats, Gedelian & Co. has hired Jeff Schreffler as a senior sales consultant. BCG Systems Inc. has offices in Akron and Nashville.
The company has also hired John Branch as a senior network engineer. He is certified in Microsoft and Cisco systems. And Gary Galehouse has joined as senior developer, responsible for assisting clients with Web development and custom Windows development.
SACS Consulting & Investigative Services Inc.
The Akron-based specialist in high-risk workplace issues has promoted Delbert Butler to director of security. Butler will oversee specialized services, including workplace protection, violence prevention, strikes and labor disputes and electronic security sweeps. Butler joined SACS in 1990.
Robert A. Foraker has joined SACS as finance ethics director. In the new position, he will assist clients with due diligence of financial markets, mergers and acquisitions, and criminal acts involving fraud and embezzlement.
Michael R. Jones, a former police officer, has joined as director of investigations. He will oversee and conduct covert corporate operations, surveillance details and drug investigations.
Raymond T. Hoyle has been hired as director of corporate security analysis. As a former U.S. Air Force security officer, he will focus on a variety of security issues. Thomas Dangel has been hired as sales and marketing manager. He will be responsible for maintaining existing client relationships and meeting with new clients.
Devi Gursahaney has been hired to conduct training activities for the company.
WKSU-FM
The Kent State University Board of Trustees has named John E. Perry as general manager emeritus of WKSU-FM in recognition of his contributions to the station and the university. Perry arrived at Kent State in 1971 as a communications instructor and station manager for WKSU.
The Karcher Group Inc.
Matt Bailey has joined the Akron-based Web site design and communication firm as its Web marketing specialist. He will be responsible for ensuring that client Web sites are ranked in the most commonly used search engines.

Bruce H. Fahey has been named a shareholder in the Akron-based law firm, which specializes in labor and employment laws and exclusively represents management.
Summa Health System
Summa Health System’s board of directors has elected Chuck Isroff to serve as its chair-elect. In 2003, he will be installed as the chair of the board of directors for three years. He succeeds Ann Amer Brennan, who is serving her last year.
Buckingham, Doolittle & Burroughs
The Akron-based law firm has promoted Thomas W. Hess, a shareholder, to chairperson of the health law practice group. He is a resident in the Columbus office.
FirstMerit Corp.
Ruthann Hosner has been promoted from customer service manager, Fairlawn, to officer and relationship manager of the bank’s Green office.
Kathi Huber, a personal banker at the bank’s State Road office, has been promoted to officer of the bank, and Eric M. Earvin has been promoted to vice president, credit policy/credit risk management. Earvin joined FirstMerit as a teller and most recently worked as an assistant vice president.
Michael E. Miller has been promoted to vice president, accounting.

Dave Long has joined the Tallmadge company as director of marketing and sales. Previously, he was president of Markinetics Inc., a Marietta, Ohio-based consultancy to the transportation industry.
