Hub International Ltd.
Hub International Ltd. appointed William T. Zanoni president and CEO of its Chicago-based hub, Mack and Parker Inc. Zanoni has been serving in a senior management position at Talbot Financial, an insurance brokerage acquired by Hub International in July.
Zanoni began his insurance career in 1972 as an underwriter for Safeco Insurance Co. He later joined the Glenview Insurance Agency, a family company founded by his father in 1946. He became president of the company after the death of his father in 1977 and remained with the agency after its sale to Talbot in June 2000.
FreedomRoads LLC
FreedomRoads LLC named Randy Thompson to the newly created position of executive vice president of corporate strategy and initiative. Thompson, who founded Crystal Valley RV in 1981, is a co-founder of FreedomRoads. Before his appointment, he served as one of company’s seven regional presidents.
GATX Corp.
GATX Corp.’s board of directors elected Ronald J. Ciancio and Gail L. Duddy as senior vice presidents. Ciancio will continue in his role as secretary and general counsel. Duddy has headed GATX’s human resources function since 1999.
Ciancio became vice president – corporate counsel and then vice president -general counsel, and secretary in 2000. He served as assistant general counsel from 1984 to 2000. He joined GATX in 1981 as a senior attorney.
Duddy was elected vice president -human resources, in 1999. She joined GATX in 1992 as director of compensation, and in 1995, also assumed responsibility for the benefits function. In 1997, Duddy was elected vice president – compensation, benefits and corporate human resources. Before joining GATX, Duddy held consulting positions with William M. Mercer and Arthur Andersen. She began her career at McKinsey & Company as a business analyst.
Equity Residential
Equity Residential named Donna Brandin executive vice president and CFO. Brandin is responsible for the company’s financial reporting, accounting, treasury, capital markets, tax and investor/public relations functions. She succeeds David J. Neithercut, who was promoted to executive vice president – corporate strategy.
Most recently, Brandin was senior vice president and treasurer of Cardinal Health, a distributor of pharmaceuticals and other medical supplies. Prior to that, she served as assistant treasurer at the Campbell Soup Co. and as assistant treasurer and director of corporate finance at Emerson Electric Co.
Nanosphere Inc.
Nanosphere Inc., a nanotechnology-based life sciences company, appointed William P. Moffitt president and CEO. Moffitt most recently served as president and CEO of point-of-care diagnostics manufacturer i-STAT Corp. Prior to i-STAT, Moffitt held executive positions of increasing responsibility from 1973 through 1989 with Baxter Healthcare Corp., a manufacturer and distributor of health care products and American Hospital Supply Corp., a diversified manufacturer and distributor of health care products.
IDEX Corp.
IDEX Corp. named Lawrence D. Kingsley COO. Kingsley most recently served as corporate vice president and group executive for the Industrial Controls Group at Danaher Corp.
Prior to joining IDEX, Kingsley progressed through a series of increasingly responsible operating positions at Danaher, including corporate vice president and group executive for the combined industrial controls and sensors businesses; president of the industrial controls group; and president, motion group – special purpose systems. Prior to Danaher, Kingsley held positions of increasing responsibility with Kollmorgen Corp., including vice president and general manager for European operations of the industrial and commercial products division.
American Society of Trial Consultants
Chicago trial consultant Daniel Wolfe was elected president of the American Society of Trial Consultants. Wolfe is senior trial consultant for the Chicago office of TrialGraphix, a national litigation consulting firm.
Wolfe has appeared in a wide range of media, including as a commentator on CBS and ABC and on talk shows such as “Talk Back Live,” and has been quoted widely in national publications such as Newsweek and USA Today. He has authored many articles on the subjects of juries, juror perceptions, ethics in trial consulting, and the interrelation of attorney gender and courtroom bias.
The Mechanical Contractors Association
The Mechanical Contractors Association of Chicago selected Kathy McCauley as the first woman president of its board. McCauley is vice president and CFO of McCauley Mechanical Construction Inc.
Established in 1888, the Mechanical Contractors Association of Chicago is the voice of the union mechanical contracting industry in Chicago, serving area firms engaged in the installation of heating, ventilating, air-conditioning and process piping.
Brown to lead Society of Women Engineers
The Society of Women Engineers elected Violettee Brown president of the organization.
“Vi Brown has the vision and skills to lead SWE’s membership into 2005,” says Alma Martinez Fallon, SWE’s immediate past president. “SWE needs an accomplished leader to drive the initiatives and challenges for the coming year.”
Brown’s duties include representing the organization to the public and presiding over meetings of the board of directors and membership.
“I plan to focus on areas that I view as critical to enhancing the engineering profession and the corporate environment for women,” says Brown. “SWE will be strengthening its professional development programs to include opportunities for all members at various stages in their career development. In addition, I am challenging the board, our membership and our partners to have a different conversation on diversity — diversity of gender, diversity of race, and most importantly, diversity of thought — to be a catalyst for businesses and governments to fully tap the value of diversity.”
Brown is self-employed as principal and owner of Prophecy Consulting Group, a Mesa, Ariz.-based firm that specializes in engineering and management consulting. Prior to starting her own firm, she worked for Motorola, Maricopa County Government, Pacific Gas & Electric, CH2M Hill and Procter & Gamble.
