Christopher joins Baird & Warner Financial Services
Kevin Christopher was appointed senior vice president and national sales manager for Baird & Warner Financial Services. He is responsible for coordinating all strategic sales initiatives, recruiting and managing loan officers. He will also interact with the managers of the Baird & Warner 35 sales offices throughout Chicago and the suburbs.
“Kevin Christopher’s experience, not only in the mortgage industry but also in working with real estate affiliates, gives him a broad-based perspective that will be especially valuable in his new position,” says Tim Good, president of Baird & Warner Financial Services.
Previously, Christopher helped expand Prism Mortgage Co. to $14 billion in retail loan originations while serving as a senior vice president and member of the board of directors for that company. In eight years with Prism, he managed nine regional production vice presidents and supervised the growth of Prism Mortgage from three offices in 1993 to more than 250 offices in 2001.
Most recently, he established his own mortgage company, Northbrook-based Mortgage Master LLC, which posted a volume of $300 million in its first year.
SARA LEE CORP.
Brenda C. Barnes was elected a director of the Sara Lee Corp. Barnes, named president and COO of the company July 1, is the former president and CEO of PepsiCola North America and is a member of the board of directors of The New York Times Co. and Staples Inc. She recently served as a director of Avon Products Inc., PepsiAmericas Inc. and Sears, Roebuck & Co.
Prior to joining PepsiCola North America, she served at other PepsiCo divisions, including Frito-Lay as vice president, marketing, and Wilson Sporting Goods as business manager.
STANDARD PARKING
Standard Parking named Herbert W. Anderson Jr. COO. Anderson assumes the responsibility for overseeing the day-to-day management of all of the company’s parking and transportation operations. He joined Standard Parking in 1994 as a corporate vice president — urban properties. He was promoted to executive vice president – operations in 1998, and was responsible for managing urban and airport operations for one of the company’s three operating divisions.
The company also promoted Thomas L. Hagerman to executive vice president – operations to assume Anderson’s former role. Hagerman, who has 14 years of parking industry experience, joined Standard Parking in 1997 as corporate vice president – urban properties and was promoted in 1998 to senior vice president – urban properties.
LEXECON
Dennis Carlton, senior managing director of Lexecon and professor of economics at the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago, was named by President George W. Bush to serve on the Antitrust Modernization Commission. Lexecon is owned by FTI Consulting Inc.
The Antitrust Modernization Commission is a 12-member bipartisan commission created by Congress to evaluate the current operation of the nation’s antitrust laws and enforcement and determine whether there is a need to modernize U.S. antitrust laws, and, if so, what types of changes should be considered.
Carlton has served as a consultant to the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission. Carlton is also the co-editor of the Journal of Law and Economics.
DEVRY INC.
DeVry Inc. appointed Daniel Hamburger president and COO. Hamburger has served as executive vice president of the company since 2002. Ronald L. Taylor will become the company’s CEO. Taylor currently serves as co-CEO with Dennis J. Keller, who will remain chairman of the board of directors. As part of this transition, O. John Skubiak, executive vice president of the company, will also assume the title of president of DeVry University.
Hamburger was previously chairman and CEO of Indeliq, a developer of simulation-based training software. From 1998 to 2000, he was president of W.W. Grainger’s Internet Commerce Division.
UOP LLC
Carlos Guimaraes was named president and CEO of UOP LLC, succeeding Graeme H.H. Donald, who is leaving the company to return to the United Kingdom.
Most recently, Guimaraes served as vice president, environmental operations business and chemicals operations at The Dow Chemical Co. He has served as president of Dow Portugal and operations director for the Estarreja, Portugal, complex. He returned to Dow Aratu as director of operations in 1993.
In 1994, Guimaraes was named president of Dow Mexico. In 1996, he became business director for RCl, HCl and Incineration in the United States. In 1998, he was named global business director, environmental operations, chemicals.
Since 2002, Guimaraes has served as chair of the U.S. Business Council for Sustainable Development.
BURRELL
Burrell Chairman and CEO Tom Burrell is stepping aside “to allow a team of passionate marketing leaders to further evolve the agency’s vision and potential.” Burrell will remain with the agency part time as chairman emeritus
Fay Ferguson and McGhee Williams, former managing directors, along with Steve Conner, founder of the STEVE Agency, have become the agency’s new managing partners. The three share majority ownership of the agency.
Conner will oversee creative. Ferguson will continue to manage account management, along with accounting, IT, human resources and administration functions. Williams will continue to oversee research, account planning, media, engagement marketing, and the agency’s Atlanta office. As part of the restructuring, Mike Faems and Mike deMaio will step down from their managing director roles when their contracts expire this summer.
Ferguson joined Burrell in 1984 as an account supervisor. Since then, she has served in a variety of senior level positions, from vice president/account director to senior vice president/client service director, to managing director. Williams joined the firm in 1986 as an account supervisor. She rose from management supervisor to vice president/client service director to senior vice president/general manager of the agency’s Atlanta office, and to managing director, before becoming a managing partner.
Conner has worked for many of the country’s top agencies, including Grey, Warwick, Campbell Mithun Esty, Lockhart & Pettus, Drossman, Lehman & Merino and UniWorld.
