James Merklin was named partner at Bober, Markey, Fedorovich & Co. He has been with BMF&C for six years and holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University.

Jon Dostal was promoted from supervisor to general services manager at Bruner-Cox LLP’s Akron office. He has been with the firm since 1997.

Darlene Root and Cristi Jackson joined the tax department of SS&G Financial Services as associates. Denise Tomayko was hired as an administrative assistant.

David W. Francis, president and CEO of Francis, Plunkett & Hammond Advertising Inc., received the National Leadership Award from the National Republican Congressional Committee. He serves on the committee’s Business Advisory Council.

BANKING & FINANCE

Second National Bank appointed Clifton Ray Hines as vice president, commercial loan officer. He will service clients in Cuyahoga and Summit counties. Vincent J. Massa was named vice president, wealth management business development manager, at the company’s Beachwood financial services center.

BUSINESS SERVICES

Michael Borowiak joined the Medina office of Kovack Realtors. He handles territory in Medina, Montville, Seville, Brunswick, Sharon and Granger townships.

Akron-Canton Airport began phases two and three of its five-year, $60 million STAR capital improvement program. Phases two and three will cost $7 million and include adding a food court, baggage court wing and Wi-Fi system. Phase three, the final phase, will focus on a new second level passenger concourse.

Jeff O’Donnell, a project architect for Doty & Miller Architects, was named to the Cleveland Restoration Society’s Board of Trustees.

The Akron/Summit Convention & Visitors Bureau received an achievement award from the Ohio Society of Association Executives during its August annual conference.

HEALTH CARE

Dr. John Prodafikas joined the courtesy medical staff of Massillon Community Hospital. Dr. Kevin Markowski and Dr. Patricia Ruof joined the associate medical staff.

Daniel B. Boes was named director of planning and marketing for Summa Health System. He is responsible for planning, marketing and business planning.

HUMAN RESOURCES

Lindsey Bisheimer joined Avatar Management Services as a project manager. She is responsible for developing education and training courses.

CFS of Northeastern Ohio Ltd. hired Karen E. Schminky as an administrative assistant in its Canton office. She provides administrative support for the regional offices of CFS.

MANUFACTURING

Kristin Clark was named office manager/purchasing for Polymer Valley Chemicals Inc.’s Akron headquarters. The company also promoted Harry Hull to vice president of manufacturing operations at its Macon, Ga., manufacturing facility.
