The Columbus Bar Association has installed Carl DeMouy Smallwood as president. Smallwood, who specializes in civil litigation, is a partner with Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP. He currently serves on the bar association’s Board of Governors and was secretary-treasurer from 1998 to 1999 prior to being named president-elect.
George A. Skestos, founder of Homewood Corp., has been named chair of The Ohio State University Board of Trustees.
Gerbig, Snell/Weisheimer & Associates has named R. Blane Walter CEO. He succeeds Robert L. Gerbig, who has held the top spot since the firm’s founding in 1977 and plans to retire within the next year. Walter retains the title of president.

Midwest Acoust-A-Fiber, a design and manufacturer of fiber engineered composites for the transportation industry, has promoted Steve Pollock to president and COO. Pollock has been with the company since 1989 and has been instrumental in its growth to three plant locations, two in Delaware, Ohio, and one in Zeeland, Mich.
Bob Fuller, president of Robert H. Fuller & Associates and Facility Management Services Inc., has received the Professional Engineering Management Award from the Ohio Society of Professional Engineers. The award is presented in recognition of Fuller’s vision and display of leadership, organizational and management skills in an engineering environment.

Columbus-based Nexergy Inc. has named Joseph A. Dougherty III executive vice president and COO. Dougherty joined Promark Electronics, a subsidiary of Nexergy, in 1992, and has guided that business through growth of more than 500 percent. Nexergy Inc. is the parent company of Promark Electronics, with locations in Columbus and Gainesville, Ga.; DC Battery Products in Minneapolis, Minn.; and Tauber Electronics in Escondido, Calif.
Business lecturer and Ohio State University marketing professor Roger D. Blackwell has been named to the board of directors at Symix Systems Inc. Blackwell serves on the boards of several public companies, including Intimate Brands Inc., Applied Industrial Technologies and Checkpoint Systems Inc.
Mencken Communications Group Ltd. has named Craig S. Lovelace vice president of creative services. Lovelace will be responsible for managing projects, as well as Mencken’s staff of creative talent.
Fifth Third Bank announced that Deborah Beyer has been promoted from marketing director to vice president. She joined Fifth Third in 1995 and is active on the board of the Komen Columbus Race for the Cure and First Night Columbus.
