Not many businesspeople would think
of hiring a full-time comedian hypnotist to
help market their business, but it worked
for Howard Goldman.
Goldman, owner of H&H Wholesale Inc.,
became a vendor of choice by providing
annual trade shows with entertainment,
guaranteeing his diabetes supply company
time to speak at the shows and giving H&H
name recognition.
He’s also propelled his company forward
by providing customers with sales incentives,
such as nonprescription glasses and attachments for walkers. By listening to continuous
feedback in his industry, he has created
mutually beneficial promotional programs
for his clients, from the store level to the association trade show level.
Goldman founded H&H Wholesale after a
trip to Hong Kong, where he visited the local
version of the chamber of commerce to find
companies with products to reimport that
were interested in doing business in the
United States. After some failed attempts, he
found his match in a man who sold diagnostic products. Goldman joined a pharmaceutical group purchasing organization back in
the U.S. and soon became the organization’s
vendor of choice.
To continue moving his company into the
future, Goldman has hired people who
have a nontraditional background, combined with a strong work ethic. He looks
for traits including common sense and a
desire to explore and recognizes potential
in people and helps them discover it.
As his company continues to grow,
Goldman plans to expand into related disease areas as well as further manufacturing
and informational program expansion.
