Martin Cabrera Jr. was born and raised on Chicago’s South Side in one of the city’s tougher neighborhoods.
But he didn’t let that stop him from achieving his goals. Cabrera has 12 years in the financial services industry and founded Cabrera Capital Markets, a full-service investment firm, in 2001.
Cabrera Capital has eight offices throughout the country and is one of only six Hispanic-owned firms and the only one based in the Midwest.
The eight offices enabled the company to establish business in untapped markets while reinforcing relationships with existing clients. The plan for the future is to establish more offices in new markets, continue to tap into more underserved markets and get involved in more community activities.
Cabrera credits his success to his commitment to clients. He consistently aims to anticipate the rapidly changing needs of his clients and then provide innovative solutions to meet those needs. Success comes with excellence, he says, and if you commit yourself to success in all that you do, the outcome is a guaranteed win.
“If you have a vision and follow that vision in its entirety, then, and only then, have you truly succeeded,” says Cabrera.
He holds his employees to a high standard, but he believes that doing business is not all about making money; it’s also about doing something good for the community.
Cabrera leads by example by being involved in financial training programs for the Chicago Public Schools and New Mexico Public Schools. His grant will bring an estimated 4,000 students into the program, which teaches fundamentals about saving and investing.
