Everyone is getting paid and the benefits are administered properly so everything is running smoothly in the HR department. Right?
That depends on the size of your HR staff and the number of employees in your company. According to the Employers Resource Council 1999 Human Resources Compensation & Practices Survey report, here is how your competitors staff their HR departments:
Of the 124 manufacturing companies to respond to the survey, 82 have one HR professional for every 100 employees. Forty put the ratio at one for 200 employees, and two companies have a single HR employee for every 300 employees.
On the nonmanufacturing side, of the 43 companies responding, 32 put the ratio at one to 100 employees. Nine have one HR professional for every 200 employees. Of the final two companies, the ratios were one to 300 and one to 700.
