Doctoring growth

It was a simple question that faced Ran Bronstein and two others more than a decade
ago. The three wondered why the medical industry did not have computer-based simulators to train physicians like the aviation industry already had for pilots. They thought it
was something that could be very beneficial, so the three developed a product to market
to hospitals, physicians and medical training centers. With this product, Simbionix was
born.

As president and chief operating officer, Bronstein leads the company’s technological and
research and development efforts. Under his leadership, the company has grown from its first
endoscopic simulator to an entire diversified line of procedural medical simulators.

In order to achieve this kind of success, Bronstein knew how to keep his priorities in check.
Instead of allowing the research and development department to dictate the direction of the
products, he instead made sure to keep the company focused on marketing and creating solutions to satisfy the needs and requests of customers. Doing this has allowed Simbionix to create more than 500 simulators in 30 different countries. It also has a number of issues and pending patents and has collaborative training agreements with many well-respected universities.

Despite all of the company’s success, Bronstein recognizes that it wouldn’t be possible without his employees, so he says it’s critical to provide challenges, growth and success to his
employees. He has focused on creating a strong culture at Simbionix and strives to maintain a
personal touch with each employee.

This approach is clearly effective and one reason why Simbionix has seen so much success.
Last year, the company’s sales grew 54 percent. Bronstein expects Simbionix to grow at a similar rate this year and continue going forward through relationships with his employees and
the company’s ongoing relationships with the medical community.
