As spring arrives, utility bills drop. But here are some year-round suggestions from the EPA’s Energy Star Small Business to reduce office energy bills.
1. Adjust thermostats for colder weather—set them at the lowest conformable temperature.
2. Open drapes or blinds in cooler months to let the sunshine warm your office.
3. Check for drafts from doors and winds—caulk and weatherstrip as necessary.
4. Clean air filters monthly.
5. Turn off computers and other office equipment overnight and on weekends.
6. Install occupancy sensors where lights can be left off most of the time.
7. Turn off the water heater overnight and on weekends.
8. Lower temperature on the water heater.
9. Install LED exit signs—they last 20 times longer than conventional exit signs.
10. Set back thermostats at night and on weekends.
