ASSOCIATIONS
The Indiana County Chamber of Commerce received a community development grant of $100,000 from the state Department of Community and Economic Development to be used for the chamber’s economic development efforts.
CONSTRUCTION
Turner Construction has been selected as construction manager for a series of renovation and addition projects at three Upper St. Clair School District elementary schools: Eisenhower, Baker and Streams. The $25 million worth of projects will be completed in spring 2003.
Massaro Properties LLC signed an exclusive agreement with Pittsburgh Transportation Co. to provide brokerage, development and construction services for the relocation of its current headquarters in East Liberty.
The Urban Redevelopment Authority provided a grant of $88,000 to help with pre-development costs for the rehabilitation of 2203 Centre Ave. to the Central New Development Corp. The three-story building will be converted to retail and commercial office space.
Slovenian Savings & Loan Association in Strabane, Pa awarded PW Campbell the design/builder contract. The project will involve construction of a new corporate/retail facility.
FINANCIAL SERVICES
Fidelity Bancorp. Inc. and First Pennsylvania Savings Association reached a merger agreement, subject to regulatory approval.
MANUFACTURING
Voest-Alpine Industries Inc. consolidated its North American operations at Southpointe Industrial Park.
Respironics Inc. acquired a controlling interest in Fuji RC Co. Ltd, a leading provider of homecare and hospital products and services for respiratory impaired patients in Japan. Respironics also agreed to purchase all remaining outstanding shares of Fuji by Dec. 31, 2006.
PROFESSIONAL SERVICES
Klink & Co., an international business intelligence and investigative firm, opened offices in Frankfurt, Germany; New York City; and Dallas.
Schneider Downs has formed a partnership with Boston-based Creative Financial Staffing, a temporary and permanent staffing company for accounting and finance professionals.
Retail
Hartley King, founder and owner of Kings Family Restaurants, plans to develop as many as five Red Robin Gourmet Burgers & Spirits restaurants as an owner/developer. Immediate sites of interest are Wexford, Cranberry and the North Shore.
L.S. Altman, a specialty clothing retailer for men and women, opened a location in the Mall at Robinson.
Buca Di Beppo restaurant opened a second Pittsburgh location in Robinson Township, joining the chain’s Station Square site.
Technology
3 Rivers Connect received a $100,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Education to continue a program that provides technology training and a computer to use at home for students in the Wilkinsburg schools. The grant will be used to extend the program to middle school students in the current academic year. Boyce Campus Middle College High School and South Side School District in Beaver will also benefit from the award.
LogicLibrary partnered with professional services consultancy iSTRAT to distribute and sell LogicLibrary Logidex throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland. Under the agreement, iSTRAT will off its clients Logidex software, implementation and training.
AT&T Wireless opened a 3,400-square-foot retail center in South Hills Village Mall.
The former Fox FarSight Productions, a Bridgeville-based developer of computer-based multimedia, interactive educational training, has changed its name to Fox Learning Systems Inc.
