Another school of thought

This year’s Executive Interchange Series begins this month with an effort to promote interaction between academia and business, and to encourage relationship-building among Central Ohio’s top corporate officers.

The Industry & Technology Council of Central Ohio, in collaboration with The Ohio State University’s Fisher College of Business, will hold quarterly sessions featuring a luncheon with a formal presentation by a leading academic expert, followed by interactive dialog with the corporate executives in attendance.

The first program, set for Sept. 14 at the college’s Pfahl Hall, features Dr. Jay B. Barney, professor of management and human resources, who will address “Gaining and Sustaining Competitive Advantage.” Barney is the college’s Bank One Chair for Excellence in Corporate Strategy and academic director for MBA programs. Focusing on implementing large-scale organizational change and strategic analysis, he has consulted with a wide variety of public and private organizations.

The other programs are Nov. 9, “Corporate Financial Analysis,” with Dr. Anil K. Makhija, professor of finance; Feb. 8, “New Products and New Ideas in Finance,” with Dr. Rene M. Stulz, the Everett D. Reese Chair of Banking and Monetary Economics; and May 10 (tentative), “Moving a 79-year-old firm onto the Internet: The Case of Applied Industrial Technologies,” with Dr. Roger Blackwell, professor of marketing.
