A legacy of giving

Fairmount Minerals Sustainable Business Practices Award

Much has changed since William C. Treuhaft opened a small coatings manufacturing plant on St. Clair Ave. in Cleveland back in 1928. The company that would become Tremco Inc. is now the premier provider of roofing restoration and repair services and materials.

But one thing that hasn’t changed is Tremco’s commitment to community service, sustainability and anything else the company can do to make the world a better place. This ongoing effort is a priority for President and CEO Randy Korach and his 3,500 employees around the world.

The company is focused on integrating the triple bottom line into the core of its business operations. The three points are: people, planet and prosperity. With that foundation in mind, the company works hard to create a healthy work culture in which employees can do good things for the company and for the community through giving money and time to serve on numerous boards.

Blood drives are held regularly on the company’s main campus to support Red Cross Blood Services of Northeast Ohio. School supplies are collected and donated to the Brookside Center to help those children most in need.

Food is also collected for the Cleveland Foodbank and for Harvest for Hunger. Employees planted a garden and donated the vegetables that grew from the soil.

But Tremco employees do a lot more than just collect food and give blood. They helped raise money to send the marching band from Shaw High School to the Olympics. They participated in A Giving Tree, where tags containing the names of 143 local foster care children were placed on a tree and selected by employees.

They then went out and bought Christmas presents for the child they had selected to help make sure that each one had a bright and happy Christmas.

They also gave kids a happy Halloween by dressing in costumes, decorating their office space and passing out candy to the children of Buckeye Woodland School. Most of the children aren’t able to trick or treat in their own neighborhood so Tremco gave them a chance to do it with them.

“Your organization is a model of how community and school can work together for the enrichment of children,” states a letter from the school to the company.
