Diebold Inc. appointed George S. Mayes Jr. vice president, global manufacturing. He is responsible for the company’s worldwide manufacturing operations, focusing on high-quality, low-cost production, operational strategy and best practices. He will also help aggressively drive lean manufacturing practices into Diebold’s day-to-day operations and culture.
Mayes joins the company from Tinnerman Palnut Engineered Products LLC, where he served as chief operating officer and a member of its board of directors. Prior to Tinnerman, he was vice president of operations of Stanley Fastening Systems at Stanley Works. He has extensive experience in lean manufacturing and Six Sigma processes, and previously managed plants in Canada, Mexico, China, Poland, Italy and the United States.
“George is a great addition to our operating team and brings experience that will help us immensely in driving quality and cost improvements throughout our worldwide manufacturing operations,” says Eric C. Evans, Diebold president and chief operating officer.
Mayes began his manufacturing career at General Motors, where he spent 15 years in manufacturing, quality and engineering. During this period, he served as director of manufacturing, Mexico, for Delphi operations, and as director, operations, for Delphi Thermal division in Buffalo, N.Y.
Prior to his professional manufacturing career, Mayes held the rank of captain in the United States Army from 1983 to 1985. He holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point.
AKRON CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL
Keith Loud joined Akron Children’s Hospital’s Division of Adolescent Medicine and Sports Medicine Center. The Division of Adolescent Medicine provides a range of services for preteens and teens, including primary care, physicals, reproductive medicine, school-related problems, eating disorders and substance abuse. The Sports Medicine Center provides care for sports-related injuries in children, teens and adults.
Loud earned a master’s degree from Harvard Medical School while completing a fellowship in adolescent medicine and sports medicine at the Children’s Hospital in Boston. He received his medical degree from McGill University in Montreal and completed a residency in pediatrics at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, with additional training in orthopedic surgery at The Ohio State University.
Loud is board certified in pediatrics, holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in sports medicine, and is subspecialty board-eligible in adolescent medicine from the American Board of Pediatrics. He also has held National Athletic Trainers’ Association Certification.
Also, Nina Sand-Loud joined Akron Children’s Hospital’s Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics.
She received her medical degree from McGill University in Montreal and completed an internship in pediatrics at The Montreal Children’s Hospital, a residency in pediatrics at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and a fellowship in behavioral and developmental pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital in Boston. She worked as an instructor in pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and is board certified in pediatrics, with a subspecialty board in developmental and behavioral pediatrics.
Sand-Loud is a member of the Society for Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics and the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Robert J. Murphy joined Black McCuskey Souers & Arbaugh LPA as an associate, focusing his practice in the areas of Real Estate Law, Construction Law, Commercial Law and Business and Corporate Law. Before joining Black McCuskey, Murphy held an externship with the Hon. Judge Ann Aldrich in Cleveland, and worked as a research assistant for Professor Robert P. He completed his undergraduate work in three-and-a-half years and holds a bachelor of arts degree in political science.
CANTON REGIONAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce named Bill Schauer general vice chairman of the 2005 Pro Football Hall of Fame Festival. Schauer assists general chairman Charles B. Scheurer in monitoring the activities of 26 committees and a team of nearly 4,000 volunteers as they plan and stage the 2005 festival, slated for July 29 through Aug. 8, 2005.
A festival volunteer for many years, Schauer served as Communications Committee chairman in 2002 and 2003, a member of the former Mayor’s Breakfast Committee and committee chair, a member of the Marketing Committee and a member of the Safety Management Committee.
Schauer is a past president of the Arthritis Foundation of Canton and was a member of the Canton Palace Theatre Association Board and Cultural Center for the Arts budget and marketing committees. In addition, he participated in fund-raising for the Downtown Canton YMCA, Malone College, United Arts, United Way, Walsh University and the Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges.
