When Cameil Williams became director of the Allegheny County Department of Minority/Women and Disadvantaged Enterprise, she was the youngest African-American female ever appointed.
During her tenure, she revamped the certification process and set new standards for operation and efficiency. Hers was one of five certification agencies in Pennsylvania under the U.S. Department of Transportation program.
She expanded the mandate of the department and doubled its operating budget. Additionally, she leveraged $325,000 in private funding to support program activity and commissioned a study to assess the challenges associated with standardizing procurement practices within the county.
In 2004, Williams left the Allegheny County Department to accept a position as the new executive director of the Pittsburgh Metropolitan Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
