Palmer appointed COO at PLSG

David Palmer was appointed chief operating officer at the Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse. Palmer joined the PLSG team in February as vice president of business development. In his new position, he oversees all day-to-day operations.

Before joining the PLSG, he was CEO of Confirmant Ltd., a $45 million life sciences joint venture company formed by Marconi and Oxford Glycosciences. Palmer earned his master’s degree in public management from Carnegie Mellon University and a bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University.

The PLSG made several other appointments, including Reed McManigle as director of investment programs and Pamela Bush as investment programs manager.

NATIONAL CITY

National City named David G. Hammer executive vice president and managing director of the Private Client Group’s Pennsylvania market. Hammer is responsible for the total sales and marketing efforts of wealth management services in Pennsylvania. The Private Client Group serves the needs of high-net-worth individuals and families through customized and expert investment guidance.

Hammer previously served as senior vice president and regional manager in the Corporate Banking Line of Business for National City Bank of Pennsylvania. He was responsible for three teams of relationship managers overseeing large commercial portfolios and the financing of leveraged transactions for management buyouts, strategic recapitalizations and mergers. He began his banking career in 1987 and has served in various positions in the bank’s commercial credit, cash management and consumer banking areas.

MALIN, BERGQUIST & CO.

Jeffrey T. Deane, who leads the International Business Practice of the Pittsburgh CPA firm Malin, Bergquist & Co. LLP, was elected a partner of the firm.

In his practice, Deane specializes in providing audit, accounting and consulting services to foreign companies operating in Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania. He also coordinates the firm’s sponsorship of the German-American Business Circle to create an economic development infrastructure to attract and retain German companies in the Pittsburgh region.

He received a degree in accounting in 1987 from Robert Morris College, and earned his CPA designation in 1993.

MYLAN LABORATORIES

Mylan Laboratories Inc. appointed Collette Taylor vice president of human resources. Taylor is responsible for leading all human resources activities, including recruitment and staffing, employee relations, compensation and employee benefits, employee communications, workplace learning and career development.

Prior to joining Mylan, Taylor led the human resources and administrative functions at Golin/Harris International, a Chicago-based global public relations company. Before her work with Golin/Harris, she served as vice president of human resources for the Chicago-based LIT America, a futures and options trading firm.

THE YMCA OF PITTSBURGH

The YMCA of Pittsburgh appointed Ann Ostergaard as the new chairperson of its board of directors. She is the first female board chair in the organization’s history.

Ostergaard is president of Ann Ostergaard Associates, a Pittsburgh management consulting firm. She previously served as a vice president at Dollar Bank and Morgan Guaranty Trust Co. Ostergaard holds a bachelor’s degree from Smith College.

ST. BARNABAS HEALTH SYSTEM

Connie Hassler was promoted to budget and projects manager in the accounting department at St. Barnabas Health System. She oversees the billing and reporting functions of St. Barnabas Medical Center, assists the chief financial officer with special projects, and coordinates and prepares draft budgets. Hassler has been with St. Barnabas Health System for seven years, most recently as staff accountant.

Dina Noon was promoted at St. Barnabas Nursing Home to director of social services, where she functions as patient advocate, working to ensure that patients receive quality care and service from each department of the nursing home. Noon, a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, has been a social worker with St. Barnabas for two years, and previously worked at St. Francis Nursing Center in Cranberry.

SCHNEIDER DOWNS

Fred Morelli joined Schneider Downs Corporate Finance Advisors LLC and Schneider Downs Wealth Management Advisors LLC practice groups as a director.

Morelli, former Alpern Rosenthal president and a 28-year veteran of corporate finance, comes to Schneider Downs most recently from private practice. In 2000, as president of Allied Electric Supply Co., he successfully negotiated the sale of that company to Netherlands-based Hagemeyer. Immediately prior to that, he counseled Allied while at Alpern Rosenthal. Morelli maintains several other personal business interests and investments.

Outside of the corporate financial arena, Morelli maintains board member positions with YMCA Metropolitan and American Textile Corporation. He also is active with the Allegheny Valley School Capital Campaign Committee, YMCA Partner in Youth Campaign and Strategic Planning Committee and World Presidents’ Organization.
