Buried among all the debate about outsourcing American jobs in recent months was the announcement by Eaton that it had developed a joint venture with China’s First Automotive Works to invest nearly $97 million to make gear boxes in an existing FAW plant. This is the second Chinese joint venture for Eaton to manufacture gear boxes, and is a strong example of how to effectively manage global business without harming the U.S. economy.
(Ups) to the three winners of the University of Akron’s annual business plan competition. The university’s Fitzgerald Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies awarded a first place prize of $3,000 to Polymeric Drug Delivery Systems LLC, an Akron company formed last year. The trio who formed the company, Deenu Kanjickal, Pritam Das and Dave Young, plan to begin animal studies soon for a drug delivery device that helps doctors clear blood vessel blockages. Other winners are Tidal Gardens and Molecular Constructs, which received $2,000 and $1,000, respectively.
