SS&G puts community at the forefront of how it does business

Gary Shamis and Mark Goldfarb, SS&G

SS&G Financial Services Inc. places a high emphasis on giving back to the community. In addition to sitting on boards, volunteering and donating pro bono time, SS&G provides financial contributions totaling six figures to organizations in the communities it serves.
SS&G, led by co-managing directors Gary S. Shamis and Mark Goldfarb, donates thousands of hours to pro bono work, providing accounting services to a diverse group of nonprofit organizations. In addition, more than a quarter of SS&G’s staff actively sits on nonprofit boards in a leadership capacity, and three-uarters of the staff volunteer for a nonprofit organization or one of its committees.
Internally, SS&G has developed initiatives around charitable causes. During 2010, employees donated more than $9,000 in exchange for wearing jeans on select Fridays. Recipients of the funds raised by that program included local chapters of the American Heart Association, the United Way, the American Diabetes Association, Alzheimer’s Association, as well as local food banks, children’s hospitals, Ohio libraries and animal shelters. For specific events, the firm matches contributions.
SS&G also makes an annual holiday donation in honor of clients and friends of the firm. In 2010, SS&G employees selected the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation as the recipient of the contribution and split their donation among the local chapters in which the firm operates.
SS&G is also active in supporting the Tickets for Kids Charities, which creates opportunities for deserving children to experience arts and cultural, educational, sporting and family entertainment events and activities. SS&G also supports the Road Runner Akron Marathon, the Columbus Medical Association, Shaw JCC, Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine, humane societies and North Coast Community Homes. Staff members also donate volunteer time to the Salvation Army, American Red Cross, Caring for Kids Inc. and the St. Vincent de Paul Adopt-a-Family program.
