It was a call that Scott Balogh couldn’t say no to. His father, Jim, was watching Mar-Bal Inc., the company he had created in 1970, struggle, and he needed help. Jim turned to his son with the hope that Scott would accept the challenge and provide a boost for the business.
Scott Balogh arrived as sales manager in 1992 and quickly ascended the ranks with the help of his strong leadership qualities and relationship skills. By 1999, he was president, and Mar-Bal, a molder and compounder of thermosetting materials, was growing quickly and achieving great success.
Balogh always has a vision for the future in mind and is constantly looking for ways to add value for his customers while still staying competitive in the market. He works with his employees to help come up with ideas and worked with his engineering team to find a way to coat parts with metal vapors, giving the appearance of genuine metal. This technique allows Mar-Bal to offer metallic finishes such as stainless steel, copper and chrome. The process is used on oven door handles and has been purchased by Whirlpool.
The company also strives to do great things outside of its own walls in the community, and each of its locations has a group of motivated staff that organizes events that give back to the community.
Balogh himself is very involved with Geauga County United Way, the American Heart Association and the Muscular Dystrophy Association, as well as other local charities.
And over the holidays, Mar-Bal organizes a food drive to fill a local pantry, not only helping the community but creating a great working environment and a place where team-building is a priority on all fronts.
Because of this, Mar-Bal has achieved a high employee retention rate, and it’s not uncommon for employees to stay as long as 25 years. They see the investment of their leaders in the company, which inspires them to want to do the same.
