Thogus Products Cos.
Many companies have seen mold and tool production costs increase, or worse, they’ve seen their molder go out of business due to the state of the economy. For many of those companies, Thogus Products Cos. is providing answers.
The Avon Lake-based manufacturer wanted to provide customers time and cost savings and snatch up new clients. So under Matthew K. Hlavin’s leadership, Thogus made a commitment to overhaul its processes and procedures.
Thogus launched a new division, acquired a new company and installed $2 million worth of new equipment in order to realize those results.
By acquiring Alpha Pack, a biomedical engineering design group, Thogus has been able to implement fused deposition modeling. For the customer, the process has meant shorter product deadlines, decreased downtime and elimination of tool investment.
For Thogus, the changes have helped the company attract a young, vibrant work force because of its dedication to new technology.

FD Johnson Co.
John Robson’s employees were taking 63 steps to pick up a product and 63 steps to return to the shipping area. Way too many steps for the CEO of FD Johnson Co.’s liking when it came to using time wisely.
With a little space restructuring, Robson got the number down to 21.
Taking steps is one example of how FD Johnson has worked to create more efficiency in the workplace and meet customers’ needs.
Seeing change as the new norm in the global economy, the manufacturer and distributor of centralized lubrication systems evaluated its entire operation, including its three P’s: process, products and people.
The evaluation has helped the company streamline its entire operations, including balancing inventory, meeting customer needs and expanding sales
It’s paid off with the addition of nearly 300 customers and an international sales expansion that started with Canada and grew to Mexico, Europe, South America and Asia.
