The Industrial Technology and Enterprise Advisory Council has approved $1 million worth of investments for SPATA Communications Corp., a Columbus-based telecommunications business, and a $25,000 investment for Columbus-based Healthcare Transactions Processors Inc., a company developing new methods to communicate data formats and content between business partners.

Ohio’s Technology Investment Tax Credit program offers a variety of benefits to Ohio taxpayers that invest in small research and development and technology-oriented firms. Through this program, Ohio investors may reduce their state taxes by up to 25 percent of the amount they invest in qualified, technology-based Ohio companies. The program’s maximum credit of $37,500 per investment may be applied to personal income tax, corporation franchise tax, public utility excise tax or the tax on dealers in intangibles.

The Bron-Shoe Co., a silver restoration and baby shoe bronzing company, has acquired ProShine Custom Metal Finishing LLC. Grandview-based ProShine provides metal fixture refinishing for interior decorators’ clients as well as outdoor metal furniture refinishing. The company also offers on-site metal signage polishing and same-day brass door hardware restoration.

Fleet Owner magazine has named Velvet Ice Cream Co. Inc. winner of its 2000 Vehicle Graphics Award. Velvet Vice President Mike Dager created the truck design, a full-color, full-wrap decal depicting the company logo, mounds of ice cream, four giant Velvet cartons and the motto, “Our Vanilla Tastes So Good We Make Four of Them.”

Golden Bear Lock & Safe Inc. has broken ground on a new building. The 6,000-square-foot facility at 7445 Daron Court near Dublin will house a large retail showroom, space for automobile lock work, offices, customer service, training and meeting rooms and a large warehouse for inventory.

Flynn, Sabatino & Day has been hired to advise and implement marketing, advertising and public relations strategies and tactics for Toski Golf Co. of Newark. Toski Golf offers metallurgical advancements in golf equipment and club technology that are enhanced by the proven teaching techniques of Bob Toski. Flynn, Sabatino & Day’s primary directive is to carry out the company’s first consumer branding initiative and develop its first dealer catalog.

Glimcher Realty Trust has signed an agreement for Energy System Management services with Johnson Controls Inc. to provide substantial savings in electric and natural gas costs for Glimcher and its tenants. Throughout the five-year program, Milwaukee-based Johnson Controls will provide Glimcher with energy strategy development, budgeting, purchasing and payables administration.

WDA&E, formerly Wolfgang Doerschlag Architects & Engineers, has completed the move to its new facilities, located at 1201 Dublin Road, Columbus. The 47,000-square-foot facility, a $3.8 million renovation of the former Corporate One Credit Union, had been vacant for more than two years, and WDA&E donated approximately $60,000 worth of office equipment from the building to local charities.

HER Realtors has officially opened its northeast regional office. The 18,000-square-foot office building, at 413 N. State St. in Westerville, was opened after HER combined its Northeast and Westerville offices into one office. The building is one of the largest and most state-of-the-art real estate offices in the nation, with nearly 70 licensed sales associates. The office will feature in-house mortgage loan origination, with an in-house loan originator on staff.

Emerging Vision Inc. has chosen Frontstep Inc., a subsidiary of Symix Systems Inc., for Emerging Vision’s trading exchange. The exchange, now under development, is designed to facilitate business-to-business exchange of goods and services between buyers and suppliers in the $50 billion optical industry. East Meadow, N.Y.-based Emerging Vision is developing and launching an Internet-based portal for the optical industry.

The Ross Products Division of Abbott Laboratories and designer IDI/Innovations & Development Inc. of New Jersey won a silver award at the annual Industrial Design Excellence Awards sponsored by Business Week magazine. Ross Products’ 32-ounce, ready to feed, reclosable Similac with iron infant formula bottle won in the packaging structures category for its innovative qualities and user friendliness.

The Schenk Co. Inc., a tenant rep brokerage, has moved its offices to 1161 W. Third Ave. in Columbus.

J.F. Hopkins and Associates’ commercial printers received four awards in the 2000 Premier Print Awards hosted by the Printing Industries of America. J.F. Hopkins competed against nearly 5,400 entries from printing and graphic arts firms around the world.
