True calling

Geoff Sharp painted houses as a college student, so when he graduated
and started working as a sales associate, he kept painting to earn some
extra cash.

But one day as he left his day job, the
receptionist told him he had four weeks
worth of paychecks
he hadn’t picked up.

As she handed them
to him, he reviewed
them and realized
they totaled less
than one-tenth of
the money he had
earned for his last
painting job. The next day he gave his
two weeks’ notice and started his own
painting business, Sharper Impressions
Painting Co.

Sharp targets young professionals
who simply don’t have the time to
paint their homes but want them to
look nice. He has a 10-minute sales
presentation and shows them a
“before” and digitally crafted “after”
shot of their house. He also provides
them with a map of the area that
details all the houses his company
has painted and provides references.
On top of that, he provides a one-page quote for them.

His level of service and attention to
detail do not stop once he’s on the
job. If customers have special requests,
such as not painting or using radios
during certain hours so as to not disrupt, say, a child sleeping, he caters
to those requests. He concludes
each job with a 22-point inspection
with the customer to ensure they are
satisfied.

His efforts have garnered a 97 percent customer satisfaction rating,
which will help him paint future success.
