The Service Corp. of Retired Executives (SCORE) offers a prebusiness workshop each month to help start-up businesses, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m.
Cost of the workshop, held at the Library Center of Point Park College and the Carnegie Library, downtown, is $60 with advance registration or $65 at the door. Group registration allows additional members of a group to pay $40 each.

The U.S. Small Business Administration, with help from the Western Pennsylvania Small Business Network, is looking for hard-working, successful small-business entrepreneurs and advocates worthy of its annual SBA Awards honors.
Awards include:
- Small Business Person of the Year
- Young Entrepreneur of the Year
- Small Business Exporter of the Year
- Entrepreneurial Success
- Advocate awards for Accountant Advocate, Financial Services Advocate, Home-based Business Advocate, Minority Small Business Advocate, Small Business Journalist of the Year, Veteran Small Business Advocate and Women in Business Advocate.
The SBA is accepting nominations for the 2001 SBA Awards until Nov. 13, 2000. Nominations must be typewritten on one side of 8 x 11 white stationery, collated and secured in a one inch binder. The page should include the nominee’s full name, title, business and home address with telephone and fax numbers; the award for which the nomination is being made; the nominator’s name, title, place of business, business address and telephone number; and, if you’re nominating a company for an entrepreneurial award, a one paragraph description of the nominee’s business.
