The daily walk

Q. How do you develop trust
with employees?

The trust is coming, for most
of it, from actions. When an
employee delivers constantly
without any hiccups, you start
to trust him more and more.
Being a CEO is not being in a
social event and making appearances to brag and show.
It is, for most of the time,
being part of the action, knowing the limits of your company,
how the employees work and
what they are facing in terms
of satisfaction or difficulties.

If you can show them that
you are part of the actions and
you sometimes can take even
more than them, you will get
the respect you want and the
trust, as they will know that
they can count on you to support them. If you are not able
to show that you’re able to do
the task that you ask someone, then you lose all your
credibility.

You need to show the example and become part of the
working team, this is essential.
Most of the time, you need to
roll up your sleeves, and this
has to be something that’s
important, to show to the people that you can sweat and
have tears with them.

Q. What is the benefit of
understanding your employees
and developing relationships
with them?

I’ve seen many times that
employees and co-workers
will go the extra mile, and they
will take it on themselves to
go the extra mile. They are not
any more committed to 40
hours a week, but they are
committed to the same success that you are speaking
about.

They trust you, and they
know that, at the end, if you
are true to yourself, they will
achieve the same goal, but
also they will participate with
greatness. People want to win,
and they want to win because
they trust you.

At the same time, there are
fewer questions about what is
going on and why.
