Professional Services and Asset Management
As a student at Hiram College, Steven A. Maxim excelled in soccer, so when he graduated, he used his international management and economics degree to run his own retail store, Soccer 2000 Inc.
But in 1999, his father’s family business, Maxim Enterprises Inc., beckoned him, and he went to work for the company, which provides property preservation services to several of the nation’s top mortgage field-service companies. The company secures foreclosed properties to protect the assets of the mortgage holder until the property is transferred to a new owner.
Under Maxim’s leadership as chief operating officer, the company became one of the fastest-growing privately held businesses in the country. And when his father died, Maxim took over the company as president and CEO, growing it from operating out of a garage to occupying a 6,500-square-foot building and from just three employees to 45.
In 2005, Maxim was recognized as an Inc. 500 company as its operations spanned Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Since then, the business has doubled in size and expanded into Virginia, New Jersey, Minnesota, Maryland and Washington, D.C.
In addition, Maxim has another company, BargainLocks, which sells padlocks, door locks, lockboxes, tarps, power tools, locksmith equipment and other supplies to property preservation contractors across the nation.
As if these two endeavors weren’t enough to keep Maxim busy, in 2006, he started another company, P4C Preservation for Contractors. The business trains independent contractors who are interested in learning the property preservation side of the default-loan servicing business. It also gives contractors an opportunity to purchase a P4C franchise and allows them to take advantage of customized, ongoing training while owning a stake in the property preservation business.
Maxim is also active in community activities. He is involved in the Green YMCA’s Indian Guides and is also a member of the fund development board for Mercy Medical Center in Canton. Additionally, he assists his daughter’s Glenmoor Country Club swim team, and for the past two years, he has volunteered at the World Series of Golf.
