Recognizing with a referral

You may only expect to hear from your accountant around tax time each year, but if you were a customer of Greg Skoda and his team at financial services firm Skoda Minotti, then you wouldn’t have your expectations high enough.

Instead, employees at the firm reach out to their customers year-round, in an effort to avoid missing valuable opportunities where tax savings can be gained through various other activities through the year. They also have a year-end tax planning meeting with clients, regardless of whether they simply prepare a return or provide them with a multitude of services. This proactive approach helps them identify their customers’ needs and find sources within the firm to meet those needs.

But Skoda Minotti also does more than just planning and consulting for its clients. The firm takes the mentality that the biggest compliment it can give a client is a referral, so Skoda Minotti regularly tries to refer its clients to other clients and business contacts. The firm takes the same approach internally, as well. When the firm added 19,000 square feet to their building in 2003, it utilized 10 of its clients for various elements of the construction. Skoda Minotti also diligently nominates clients for awards. In the past year, 25 of the firm’s clients have won Weatherhead 100 awards, 12 were awarded the NEO Success Award and 15 won a Fast Track 50 award.

In addition to referrals and awards nominations, Skoda Minotti also sent more than 1,050 holiday gifts to customers in December, and it presents plaques to clients who are recognized in local publications. All of these efforts add that personal touch that makes the firm’s clients stick around and value the relationship they have, and the firm looks forward to increasing its efforts to reach out to customers this year.
