If you’re a small company or start-up in need of business assistance and you haven’t yet taken advantage of the state and federally funded Small Business Development Centers at Duquesne University or the University of Pittsburgh, maybe it’s time you did.
Even if you haven’t, almost 2,000 others did in 1999, according to statistics released recently by both centers. Duquesne’s center served 924 entrepreneurs last year for 15,929 consulting hours. It offered 67 seminars, attended by 1,784 people. The SBDC helped clients raise more than $13.5 million in capital.
Pitt’s SBDC served 827 entrepreneurs for 7,718 consulting hours. It offered 37 seminars, attended by 1,299 people.
Both centers offer a wide range of free consulting services for start-ups and growing companies. They’re funded by the U.S. Small Business Administration and state tax dollars.
St. Vincent College and Indiana University of Pennsylvania also house SBDCs.
