Gateway Health Plan named Cynthia J. Gentile corporate vice president to head the company’s strategic-planning activities. Gentile works directly with Michael Blackwood, Gateway’s president and CEO, and the executive committee to develop and implement the strategic direction of Gateway Health Plan.
“Cindy brings with her a wealth of experience and knowledge of health care and Gateway Health Plan, which provides a solid foundation for our future strategic planning activities,” says Blackwood. “In addition, Cindy will be the key project manager to implement Gateway’s new Medicare product, serving members who are dually eligible, that is, covered by both Medicare and Medicaid.”
Since 1995, Gentile has worked as a health care consultant to a number of organizations, including Gateway Health Plan. Prior to starting her own consulting business, Gentile held senior-level management positions with Sewickley Valley Hospital, Montefiore Hospital and Eye and Ear Hospital. Earlier in her career, she served as a nurse in acute care hospitals in Michigan, Missouri and New Jersey.
Gentile earned a diploma in nursing from the Hurley Medical Center School of Nursing in Flint, Mich. She has a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Carlow College and an MBA from the Katz School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh.

Smith has extensive senior management experience in patient monitoring, ventilation and critical care, both domestically and internationally. Throughout his 26-year career, Smith has held positions of increasing responsibility with companies including McKesson, Datex-Ohmeda and Merck. Most recently, he served as senior vice president of operations and technology development for McKesson Health Solutions.
