ATA names Viets executive VP and CFO
ATA Holdings Corp. appointed Gilbert Viets executive vice president and chief financial officer.
Viets replaces David Wing, who left the company to pursue other interests.
“I would like to thank Dave Wing for his 10 years of dedicated service to ATA, nine years as controller and the past year as the company’s CFO,” says ATA Chairman, President and CEO George Mikelsons. “Gil Viets has brought excellent experience to ATA as a board member and chairman of our audit committee. Now, I am pleased that Gil will join our senior management team and work full time on cutting our costs much more significantly, and thereby improving the airline’s profitability.”
Viets has served as an independent member of ATA Holdings Corp.’s board of directors and chairman of the audit committee since May 2003. He is responsible for all corporate finance, treasury, financial reporting and SEC compliance activities. His other responsibilities include tax planning, financial forecasting and the measurement of business segment profitability. He will report to Mikelsons and continue to serve on the board of directors.
He is a certified public accountant and spent 35 years working in this capacity with Arthur Andersen LLP. Viets retired from Arthur Andersen in 2000 as managing partner of the Indianapolis office. He was a member of the firm’s transportation industry leadership team.
Viets is a graduate of Washburn University and serves on the finance committees of St. Vincent Hospital and Healthcare Center Inc.

Bose McKinney & Evans LLP attorney Daniel Emerson was named to the board of directors of the Macalester College Alumni Association.
Emerson specializes in sports representation and is a partner in the litigation and employment groups. He has represented employers throughout the country, both in labor and employment matters as well as litigation, and has considerable experience in restrictive covenant and trade secret matters. He has been an attorney since 1979 and a partner in the firm since 1985. After graduating from Macalester College, he attended law school at Indiana University -Bloomington, where he served as managing editor of the Indiana Law Journal.
He is a member of the Indianapolis, Indiana State, American, Federal and Seventh Circuit bar associations, and is a past chairman of both the Indiana State and Indianapolis Bar Associations’ labor and employment law sections. He also served as an adjunct professor of personnel law at Indiana University.

Debra J. Perry was elected to Conseco Inc.’s board of directors, increasing the board to eight members.
Perry is a former senior managing director in charge of global ratings and research at Moody’s Investors Service, New York. As senior managing director, she was in charge of Moody’s Americas corporate finance and public finance departments. These groups are responsible for ratings of all nonfinancial corporations in the Americas and for tax-exempt securities in the United States.
During her 12-year career at Moody’s, she also served as chief administrative officer and chief credit officer, with responsibility for credit policy, technology, human resources and both internal and public communications. In addition, she managed the finance, securities and insurance group that rated all nonbank financial institutions worldwide. She also served as a team leader for a Moody’s task force on organizational performance, one of five task forces established to implement a comprehensive reorganization of the company, and she chaired a permanent committee established to examine the impact of asset securitization on corporate creditworthiness.

Dale Jacobs, a principal at BSA LifeStructures, was named to the College of Fellows of The American Council of Engineering Companies. ACEC nominates engineers to the College of Fellows who have made a significant contribution to the engineering profession through their experience, knowledge and management abilities.
Over the last 20 years, Jacobs has been president, twice a board member of ACEC Indiana and currently is chairman of the ACEC national mechanical /electrical practices committee.
Jacobs, who joined BSA LifeStructures in 1983, is one of the company’s principals and oversees program management. He has managed the design of several Veterans Administration hospitals and is the technical services director for the Indianapolis International Airport Midfield Terminal project.
BSA LifeStructures is Indiana’s largest full-service architecture and engineering firm, with additional offices in Chicago and Charlotte, N.C. It designs health care, education, research and technology facilities.
THE AMERICAN DIABETES ASSOCIATION
Larry Ellingson was elected chair of the board of The American Diabetes Association executive committee. He retired as executive director for endocrine professional relations and advocacy at Eli Lilly and Co. in May 2001 after being involved as a leader of global diabetes care for more than half of his career.
Ellingson is a member of the American Diabetes Association, European Association for the Study of Diabetes and a life member of the International Diabetes Federation.
