Markley leads way at Small Business Development Center
Robert Markley Jr. has retired from Corporate Solutions to show others the way when it comes to entrepreneurship. Markley is volunteering his time at the Small Business Development Center at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, assisting small businesses in Westmoreland and Fayette counties.
In addition to his volunteer work, Markley is teaching at Saint Vincent in the Alex G. McKenna School of Business, Economics, and Government.
“I’m looking forward to assisting some of the entrepreneurs and small businesses in Western Pennsylvania,” says Markley.
A co-founder of Corporate Solutions LLC, a rapidly growing, successful Pittsburgh-based professional services company, Markley has founded and owned five businesses in Western Pennsylvania over the past decade. He was previously part owner of Carnegie-based Paragon Solutions Inc., which was sold to CIBER Inc. in 1999. He also co-founded Carnegie-based Opsoft Technologies Inc., which was sold to locally owned Cerebellum Software Inc., also in 1999, and Pittsburgh-based Manufacturing Solutions and CS East.
Paragon Solutions Inc. was recognized in 1997 and 1998 by the Pittsburgh Business Times and Pittsburgh Technology Council as one of the fastest growing companies in Western Pennsylvania. Corporate Solutions LLC was the winner of a 2002 and 2003 Technology 50 award.
GIANT IDEAS
Giant Ideas hired Marc Lagamba as senior art director. Lagamba has largely been working on new creative direction for new clients including Rider Automotive, Phillipsburg, and Action Fanatics, Pittsburgh. A Pittsburgh native, he has worked for nearly 20 years for many top agencies and corporations in the region. He worked as managing creative director for Highmark Blue Cross, and, most recently, for Scott Pipitone Design.
MEYER, UNKOVIC & SCOTT
John W. Powell, a partner at the downtown law firm of Meyer, Unkovic & Scott LLP, was elected president of the Pittsburgh Tax Club, which is comprised of attorneys and accountants whose practices focus on tax matters. Powell, a Ross Township resident, concentrates his practice in business succession planning, estate planning and tax matters.
J. Robert Hanlon Jr., a partner at Meyer, Unkovic & Scott, was elected to the Pennsylvania Bar Association House of Delegates for Zone 12. The House of Delegates, created in 1966, is the body charged with setting the policy of the PBA.
Hanlon, a member of the firm’s Real Estate & Banking Group, has been active on several PBA committees, including the Legal Services to Persons with Disabilities Committee, the Client and Community Relations Committee and the Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee. The Squirrel Hill resident is a member of the Allegheny County and Pennsylvania Bar Associations.
Laura A. Candris, a partner at Meyer, Unkovic & Scott, became president of the board of directors of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh Inc. She has served on the board of the organization since 1998. This nonprofit agency specializes in providing professionally supervised mentoring services to children and youth, primarily from single-parent households. Candris, chair of the firm’s Employment Law & Employee Benefits Group, focuses her practice on labor and employment law and related litigation.
CALGON CARBON CORP.
Michael J. Mocniak was elected senior vice president, general counsel and secretary, of Calgon Carbon. Mocniak serves as Calgon Carbon’s chief legal officer worldwide.
He joined Calgon Carbon in February 2003 as vice president, general counsel and secretary. His experience also includes serving as assistant general counsel for the H. K. Porter Co. in Pittsburgh, and four years in private practice in Pittsburgh and Columbus, Ohio. Mocniak’s legal experience includes corporate and environmental compliance, litigation, labor relations, corporate governance, and mergers and acquisitions.

Landmark Properties Group, an Allison Park-based company that develops, acquires and manages real estate throughout the United States, hired Jose Raymundo to pursue acquisition opportunities for its retail, office and self storage portfolios in West Virginia, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland and Indianapolis.

Schneider Downs named Steven D. Thompson shareholder. Thompson has more than 13 years of public accounting and private industry experience, including servicing both publicly and privately held companies in the manufacturing, financial services and transportation industries. He was formerly the corporate controller for a $120 million revenue multilocation family-owned business.
