In the five short years since William J. Centa, J.D. Sullivan Jr. and their investors bought Mayfran Holdings Inc., the company has grown by 150 percent.

Centa, Mayfran’s president, and Sullivan, who serves as chairman and CEO, expect a lot not only from their employees but from themselves, as well. They believe that the key to success is to build a team of highly motivated people who think independently, thrive on continuous improvement and accomplishing goals, and work for the overall success of the provider of engineered downstream industrial automation products and systems. The company’s specialized products and systems convey, filter, separate, briquette, shred and process metal scrap and other materials and fluids in automated manufacturing and scrap management operations.

Centa and Sullivan have grown the Mayfield Village-based company globally, establishing facilities in North America, Europe and parts of Asia. They have also improved manufacturing efficiency, increased engineering standardization, expanded customer relations and broadened international cooperation.

With its global reach, the company can cover both global and local customers with consistent service and quality, exploit world-class products and practices, optimize logistics, material and labor costs, and accommodate the local preferences, languages and regulatory requirements of its customers.

Besides improving the accessibility of Mayfran’s services, Centa and Sullivan have developed a multifaceted growth strategy for future endeavors. They believe the 76-year-old company will continue to succeed because it is one of the only businesses of its kind focused on such a large market with a huge global footprint. Future plans include increasing the company’s product line, expanding customer penetration and developing an acquisition strategy.

Even while running a global company, Centa still finds time to give back to the Cleveland community. He supports charities including the Juvenile Diabetes Association, the Kidney Foundation, and United Ways of Cleveland and Lake County. Also, Centa is a member of the Visiting Committee of the Nance College of Business Administration at Cleveland State University.
