Managing pros

A book due out next month promises to help build the skills of leaders and managers of professional groups and professional firms.

“First Among Equals: How to Manage a Professional Group,” co-authored by Patrick McKenna and David Maister, postulates that the work styles of professionals differ significantly from those of corporate executives and line managers, for whom most management books are written.

The book offers real-world examples, self-evaluation materials and advice on day-to-day professional leadership issues.

Maister is the author of “Practice What You Preach,” which hit the Wall Street Journal‘s best seller list in 2001. McKenna co-authored “Herding Cats,” which hit best seller lists in Canada last year. How to reach: www.firstamongequals.com
