Jeffrey Sopp makes it a point to listen to his employees and customers every day.

Sopp, the president and CEO of Expesite LLC, has seen the company grow more than 300 percent on his watch, and a good bit of that can be attributed to Sopp’s constant follow-through.

He calls at least two customers every day to see how they’re doing and find out what Expesite can do better for them. He knows that growth is about relationships, so the regular check-ins act to not only build trust in him and Expesite but also to tweak internal systems to match expectations customers have for the company, which provides Web-based project management for construction and real estate development.

To implement Sopp’s vision of hearing the voices of his stakeholders, Expesite has hired experienced subject matter experts to better understand client needs. Sopp also began staging mandatory customer satisfaction meetings every month for all of his employees and developed a customer satisfaction survey that all new hires are required to pass.

To help further the career of his people, Sopp has implemented programs to help them advance. More than 30 percent of the company’s associates across all departments have Project Management Institute Certification or advanced certifications from Microsoft and almost 100 percent of support desk associates are certified by the Help Desk Institute. The investment taken to further educate and train associates helps not only make employees’ careers brighter, but it also separates Expesite from competitors because of the vast amount of knowledge across departments. Sopp also sets an example for his employees in building a better community. He encourages them to participate in volunteer activities and offers them paths within the company to give time to charity.

The end result is a company with happy employees and happy clients because of an entrepreneur who’s open to suggestions for improvements.
