Leading change

Joshua Pickus, president and CEO, Support.com

Joshua Pickus started his career as a lawyer and saw success as he became one of the leading young attorneys in Silicon Valley as a partner at Morrison & Foerster and then at Venture Law Group.
He eventually transitioned from law to business and transformed his first company, Niku, from a niche project management vendor into an industry leader in IT services management and governance. While he was there, he repositioned the company, created dramatic cost reductions and released a new product. As a result, the company’s stock price grew from less than $1 a share to $21 a share, and in 2005, he led a successful sale of the business.
In 2006, Pickus arrived at Support.com as president and CEO. The company had gone through an IPO in 2001 and grew rapidly through 2004, but at that point, revenue began a long, consistent decline due to a lack of new target opportunities. In his first earnings call, he announced plans to enter the consumer technology services business. And in 2007, the company launched its consumer offering, transforming the declining, unprofitable enterprise software company into a rapidly growing consumer services business by leveraging its core expertise. In transforming the company, Pickus pioneered a new category of services: premium technology services delivered over the Internet. He changed the industry from one requiring physical proximity to one that could be distributed across the country virtually, using proprietary technology and an innovative work-from-home labor model.
In addition to his business success, Pickus and his family are very active in giving back to Child Family Health International, East Side College Prep, TheatreWorks, Peninsula Youth Theater, Shelter Network and Hands on Bay Area.
