When President and CEO Rick Pleczko founded BBS Technologies in 2004, he decided to make the company’s focus not on making multimillion-dollar sales but on selling more affordable products instead.
The goal of BBS Technologies is to provide an easy-to-use format for consumers who use complex software. Because of this goal, BBS Technologies’ software utilizes drop-down menus and downloading options with just a click of a button. The software sold by BBS Technologies provides systems management for Windows and Linux servers. BBS Technologies operates an Internet marketing campaign that is combined with a telephonic sales force to deliver its product in the most efficient way.
In order for the software to be ensured as marketable and user-friendly, Pleczko manages the company with his rule of threes. BBS Technologies follows Pleczko’s rule by ensuring that all products sold must appeal to the potential customer within 30 seconds of the sales pitch, they need to be capable for downloading by the customer in less than 30 seconds and they need to be providing value to the customer within 30 minutes. Following the three-step rule, Pleczko’s company increased sales by 50 percent in fiscal 2008. Much of the success BBS Technologies has experienced can be directly correlated to Pleczko’s background in marketing. Pleczko is always looking for a new product and even has a customer advisory board. This panel of 30 customers assists BBS Technologies by giving it feedback on new products.
To thank the panel, Pleczko provides pizza to the participants while they listen and respond to the sales pitch. Aside from staying in tune with customers’ needs, Pleczko also takes great care of his employees by creating a fun work environment. The company’s employees can often be seen playing volleyball outside of their Houston office.
