Joel Bomgar had grown tired of spending so much time in his car. It’s not that he had lost the energy to help his clients, he just felt there was a better way to solve IT problems and provide tech support than driving to wherever it was that someone needed help.
Still in college, Bomgar began working on a prototype of a system that would enable him to view and correct problems remotely from his own desktop. Six years later, Bomgar Corp. is continuing to grow rapidly through the sales of its Bomgar box, a product that is helping clients around the world become infinitely more efficient in dealing with IT problems.
The technology enables Bomgar, the company’s founder, president and CEO, to operate more efficiently than he otherwise could and to handle many more clients than he would be able to if he had to travel to each client destination.
Bomgar has set an ambitious goal for his company and has engaged all of his employees in tracking the goal. The company has a cylinder full of BBs and transfers one to another cylinder when each Bomgar box is sold. Once all the BBs have been moved, the company will have met its goal.
Bomgar is proud of the company he has built and proud of his Christian beliefs, which are represented by a verse from the Bible that is displayed at the company’s headquarters: “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.” Bomgar works hard, but wants his employees to know that the results of their effort belong to God.
In keeping with that spirit, Bomgar Corp. has donated more than 500 licenses to nonprofit organizations worldwide, and its employees contribute time and money to community events.
