Like many entrepreneurs, Scott Kluth has endured many obstacles to get to where he is today.
The president of CouponCabin Inc. founded his company in a retail climate that was not yet accepting of coupons. Most merchants were afraid to discount their brands and felt that issuing coupons meant losing money.
Electing to forego venture capital funding, Kluth financed CouponCabin.com entirely through bootstrapping methods. Despite a chilly initial reception from merchants, Kluth was persistent and steadfast in his confidence that a coupon Web site would be a successful venture for both parties.
Over time, Kluth and his team have created strong relationships with merchants and illustrated how and why offering coupons can be an effective marketing tool. As a result, CouponCabin.com has realized substantial year-over-year growth since the company’s inception.
One major point of differentiation for CouponCabin.com is the testing of its coupon codes. The site’s administrators test every coupon three times a week to ensure validity.
Over time, the attention to detail paid by Kluth and his leadership team have helped build strong merchant relationships. As a result, the site now offers an extensive selection of local coupons searchable by ZIP code, printable grocery coupons, an auction section and the recently launched CouponClub, which offers a one-time, exclusive discount from a different merchant each week.
After successfully launching the company, Kluth and his team have built upon their success by launching other discount Web sites in the affiliate marketing space. The roster of sites includes discount travel site TripFit.com, discount fashion site LuxGoddess.com, discount ticket site SeatCity.com, price monitoring and refund alert site PricePlease.com, mall information and coupon site Mallwalker.com, and price comparison site CheapUncle.com.
The variety of markets that Kluth’s sites serve have helped him grow his business despite the economic slump of the past several years.
